There are endless benefits to practicing yoga, and progress looks like different things for different people. For some it looks measurable or physical, like an increase in mobility, an increased ability to soften, or ability to do a pose they couldn’t do before. Sometimes progress and advancement comes in the form of a new attitude or way of viewing yourself in the world, like greater self acceptance, or kindness and compassion toward others.
While “advanced yoga” often conjures images of complicated poses, balancing inversions, or meditating for hours, and a belief that more is better, we’ll approach advancing your practice from the perspective of finding depth in the basics to get there. Truth is, the more complicated the pose, the more experienced at the basics the practitioner is, so the advanced yogi is always a beginner!
Our two hour workshop will focus on developing a deeper level of self inquiry and appreciation of the subtle, finding balance of strong effort and fluid ease, with quite a few tricks to get into challenging poses along the way. Expect focused opportunities as we practice standing poses, back bends, arm balances, and inversions.
Participants will come away with:
- A refined understanding of fundamental poses and their benefits
- Clearer understanding of what “next level” means for you as it applies to poses
- An increased ability to recognize where you need to stabilize, stretch, and release
- A recognition of structural limits and proclivities for movement
This workshop will offer a lot of time to focus and go deep in particular actions for access to what lies beyond the basic forms of the poses. It will absolutely have flow along with it. Be prepared to move, sweat, and go deep. Good for students with 1 year minimum regular practice, and no serious current injuries.
