DHARMA IN THE DOOMSCROLL: Living the practice through embodied yoga ethics

A two day immersion weaving Asana and the Yamas and Niyamas with Julie Dohrman
SATURDAY OCTOBER 10TH + SUNDAY OCTOBER 11TH: 1 – 4:30 PM BOTH DAYS
The Yoga Sutras lays out the Yamas and Niyamas as an ancient guide for ethical living. Navigating through modern chaos is never easy. Through understanding these teachings, we can reshape awareness by becoming more conscious in external interactions, and create grounded internal regulation.
Think of your asana as a container for expressing the philosophy of yoga. We learn that our energy, thoughts, and actions are our responsibility relating to ourselves, and the world. Yoga deepens when we make the unconscious, conscious, right? And while the physical practice is greatly beneficial on all fronts, yoga has never been just for fitness.
It’s for insight.
Let’s meet together and review how to bring mindfulness to everyday life with mental clarity and heart. Each day will include discussion and asana, wear comfortable clothes to move. All levels welcome.
Day 1: Saturday October 10th, 1:00PM – 4:30PM
Day one explores the Yamas, yoga’s ethical foundations for how we relate to others and the world around us. In a time of constant information, outrage cycles, and digital overwhelm, these ancient principles offer a powerful guide for living with integrity and clarity.
Through discussion, reflection, and a grounding movement practice, we’ll explore the five Yamas: non-harm, truthfulness, non-stealing, wise use of energy, and non-grasping – and consider how they apply in life through our speech, our attention, our consumption, and even our relationship to the endless scroll.
This day invites us to ask: How do we practice yoga not just on the mat, but in the way we move through the world?
Day 2: Sunday, October 11th, 1:00PM – 4:30PM
On day two we turn inward to the Niyamas, the personal practices that cultivate resilience, clarity, and reinforce meaning in daily life.
Together we’ll explore the five Niyamas: purity, contentment, disciplined practice, self-study, and surrender – and how they support steadiness in a world that constantly pulls our attention outward.
Through an integrated asana practice, guided reflection, and conversation, we’ll look at how these teachings can help us reconnect to purpose, perspective, and presence, even in the midst of modern noise.
This day asks: What keeps us rooted, steady, and awake in our own lives?
