Julie is a dedicated student and teacher of yoga and meditation, deeply impassioned by yoga’s innate power of transformation. Teaching for almost 25 years, she’s been called “a burst of prana”, and leads public classes, workshops, teacher trainings, yearly retreats to Costa Rica and Europe, and has taught at Festivals from Bali to Nantucket.
Living through a global pandemic has reinforced Julie’s commitment to creating and supporting local yoga communities to thrive, and appreciates that a neighborhood yoga studio can be a haven for practice, connection, friendship, and sacred communion.
Known for her clear instruction, intelligent sequencing, and ability to teach ancient wisdom with a practical approach, Julie helps students redefine what it means to live life from a yoga lens. She believes yoga is a powerful medium for activating spiritual connection, physical health, personal growth, and collective awareness.
As a teacher with diverse interests, talents, and influences, Julie is an asana technician, a philosopher, mythologist, storyteller, mystic, artist, and a New Yorker with grit. Certified in Anusara™ Yoga since 2005, and more recently Yoga for All with Dianne Bondy, she is committed to making yoga and meditation accessible and understood as practices for any willing student.
Meditation is the heart of yoga, and Julie has been a deep practitioner for almost 20 years, offering valuable instruction and insight from the depth of her practice and studies. Often called a “teachers teacher”, Julie created the acclaimed Shaktiyoga New York 200 hour Teacher Training, a comprehensive and complete Yoga Alliance registered program to guide experienced and enthusiastic students to bloom in a non-dogmatic way as knowledgeable, creative, and confident yoga instructors.
Julie’s been most inspired and influenced from dedicated study with her renowned meditation and philosophy teachers, Paul Muller-Ortega of Blue Throat Yoga, and 20 years studying Sri Vidya and Rajanaka traditions with Prof. Douglas Brooks.
Julie lives in Brooklyn with her tiny dog Sammy, and the sweetest cat, Blue.
